Dext New API (Bureau Accountants Only)
Fantastic news! We have updated our integration with Dext to give you a better and more efficient experience. This update will allow an easier authentication method, better access controls, the ability to Publish Costs & Sales, importing of the Edit Line Items feature within Dext items, and your full Customer, Supplier, Nominal, and VAT Rate list will be available in Dext.

Enhanced List Views with Batch Actions
We have added a simple feature to help you with batches in certain list sections within Surf Accounts. You can now easily batch Email and Delete on certain list sections.
Note the following:
- The Email option is not available in all lists.
- Records cannot be removed if locked to a Transaction (Customers, Suppliers, and Prospects), VAT Return, Allocations (Invoices & Credit Notes only), Financial Period, or a Bank Reconciliation.
Sending Emails in Batch
This is explained with the example of the Sales Invoices.
- On the Sales Invoices page, tick the box under the Email button or select specific Invoices you wish to Email.
- In this example, all records are selected.
- Click Email. The records are emailed.
If one or more contacts do not have emails set up, you will be asked to set up email before sending emails in batches.
Deleting Records in Batch
This is explained with the example of the Sales Invoices.
- On the Sales Invoices page, tick the box under the Email button or select specific transactions you wish to delete.
- In this example all records are selected.
- Click the Delete button and on the Confirmation Message window, click Delete.
- The records are deleted.
Note:
- If you are not allowed to delete all records for some reason, for example, transactions associated with records, you will have the option to deselect such records and remove the rest. Tick Deselect records that cannot be deleted and click Close.
- To view the potential reasons you are not allowed to remove records, click the help link on the window.
New Reporting UI with Favourites Section
The Reports section has a great new look and a new feature that allows you to quickly access your frequently accessed reports by saving them as favourites. Add or remove reports from your favourites list anytime. All reports are categorised under respective headings that can be collapsed or expanded.
Using the Favourites Section
- Note each report has a beside it. To add a report under the FAVOURITES heading, click the icon corresponding to the report.
- The report is added under the FAVOURITES heading.
- To remove a report from under the FAVOURITES heading, click the blue star to the right in the FAVOURITES section.
Collapse or Expand Report Categories
To collapse or expand, toggle-click the symbol beside the report category name.
Hotkeys on Feeds for Quicker Editing
We have introduced hotkeys to expedite your work in the following areas:
- Bank Feeds
- Dext
- Quick Invoices
- Quick Payments and Receipts
The hotkeys are:
- To edit: ctrl+alt+d
- To split: ctrl+alt+s
- To make a rule: ctrl+alt+m
- To allocate: ctrl+alt+a
Additonal Edit Fields on Feeds
We have given you the functionality to edit specific parameters on our feeds. The imported Bank Feeds and Dext Feed now have more editable fields to make it easy to make necessary changes.
Earlier: Supplier Code, Paid and Bank Account fields were editable.
Now: Date, Invoice No., Cust/Supp, Code, Description, Paid and Bank Account fields are editable.
Select a record and click on the View/Split button.
The Dext Item image is shown. You can now split entries and then click Save or Save & Next.
Contact Display Name
Now you can choose the display name of a contact you create to appear on each browse screen, certain reports, and transaction print previews. When you create a contact, you can provide the name, forename and surname and accordingly, Surf Accounts offers different display name options for you to choose.
See the example of creating a customer below.
The display name options are displayed depending on your inputs in the CUSTOMER NAME, FORENAME and SURNAME fields.
Updated Demo Company
Should you need to view a demonstration of all enhancements in this release, just use the Demonstration Company business by clicking Select Demo to the top right of your screen after logging in. It has demo data set up and you can try the enhancements described on this page. The Demonstration Company data has been refreshed, with up to date data. New users of Surf Accounts will experience the new demo data.
Drillable Customer & Supplier Activity Report
On both the Customer Activity and the Supplier Activity reports, you can now drill down to the source transactions of the records and edit the transactions making it easy to reconcile Customer/Supplier accounts. See the steps below.
Customer Activity Report
- Generate the report.
- On the report, click the document number under the Doc.No. heading.
- The original transaction appears. You may edit the transaction, if needed.
Supplier Activity Report
- Generate the report.
- On the report, click the document number under the Doc.No. heading.
- The original transaction appears. You may edit the transaction, if needed.
Drillable Contact Activity
We have added a great new feature where you can now view the summary of the contacts' accounts and drill right down to the source transactions, making it easy to reconcile Customer/Suppliers accounts. This is shown with the example of a supplier account below.
- You can locate the total supplier balance under the Balance heading.
- Click the balance amount.
- The Supplier Account page appears.
- To edit a transaction at source, click a transaction under the Date or Amount heading.
- Edit the transaction, as appropriate.
Report Name Changes
Certain Report names have changed, and Aged Customer/Supplier Balances has been split into a Detailed and Summary version of the report. Please see the changes below:

Ability to Run Reports for Pre Comparative
You can now run certain General Ledger reports for Previous Year Figures such as the Trial Balance, Trial Balance - Formatted, Trial Balance - Periodic, Profit & Loss, Profit & Loss – Periodic, and Balance Sheet, to view historical figures where a year end has been run.
Record Count on List Views
We have added a counter in certain list views to show the total number of records, for example, Customers, at the bottom of the page the number of records is displayed based on the current page. You can choose the number of records to be displayed per page by selecting the Items per page selection at the bottom-right of the page.
